But you did – behind the title…

I published my first ever solo EP in June 2022. It has four songs on it and was called but you didn’t.

The title of the EP was inspired by a piece of art by Craig Damrauer, from his New Math collection, I probably saw it late, meaning after 2014.

The EP was fueled by the desire to finish and publish an idea called #1 which had been around since 1996-ish. I eventually did but then I needed more music and eventually ended up with the four tracks that make up But you didn’t.

Only after publication did I realize my mistake though. “But you didn’t” was wrong – I had actually done. Undoubtedly, I had created art and I was proud of it. But I had put it out under the wrong title. I was a wee bit crushed for a week but then I came to an easy conclusion: I would have to put out another collection of songs and call that But you did. Which I did, in January 2025, and you can listen to it here.

Yes, it took me three years (and not my family’s fortune, ht Bttf) to write and record these four new songs (well three, The Years have done You well I already had as a demo), but as you can imagine – it’s not that easy if music isn’t your main occupation.

But, here it is. But you did. Modern art – I have made it. And am proud of it!
