Last week Mahalo Daily launched, another daily video podcast. I checked out three of the five episodes and even re-subcribed to Rocketboom and Webb Alert to compare. I like the focus on one topic which is what Mahalo tries to do with the search results. However, the once caveat I have so far is the topic selection. Two of the shows obviously involve companies or products which profit immensely from being on the show. Tesla Motorcars (which Mahalo founder Calacanis later ptiched again on his blog) and Dopplr. While I don’t mind them getting traffic, from the view of a PR-guy I’d like to know if there was money involved or if these are just Jason’s or Veronica’s preferred topics? Where is the topical connection to Mahalo, cause after all, I thought Jason’s goal with the video podcast is to drive traffic to the site. Enlighten us, Jason.
UPDATE: Both Veronica and Jason clear it in the comments. Nobody pays to get on the show. Good news, makes me enjoy the show even more. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Hey there!
The shows are all topics of my choosing. Dopplr definitely didn’t ask us to make that video (in fact, I hope they don’t get mad…hehe). I even said right on the site that they didn’t pay us, but I guess if you saw the video embedded somewhere you wouldn’t have seen that!
We don’t mind sending traffic to sites we enjoy and make a good product, but no money has exchanged hands.
Best,
Veronica Belmont

And by “topics of my choosing” I of course mean topics that the wonderful Mahalo team and I come up with 😉
I couldn’t do it without them!

No one pays to get on the show…
The show is produced by Veronica, Tyler, and with much feedback from the ~40 Mahalo guides.
Dopplr didn’t even know they were on the show until the show was released in fact!
I give a little input, but most of it is rightfully ignored. I just pay for the food. 🙂
