Following the honorable David Weinberger’s example I am going to share my easy but quite efficient iPod fix. I had almost given up hope. After the battery seemed to be on it’s last days the menu was going crazy.
Meaning:
Until then, I had all my music in playlists and whenever I went up one level (from song to playlist) to select a new song, the software just kept going from one song to the next, not even playing them, just sort of scrolling through. I bug I couldn’t stop, onle by reseting the iPod with pressing the middle two buttons (3g 15GB). When I did this the menu returned with the folder-and-? symbol. After reading up on Apple.com I checked whether I could launch the iPod as an external harddrive and decided to go for the recommended reset to factory settings. I back-up’d the music, did a hard reset with software update and lo and behold, it works. Even the battery life is back to old times, meaning not a month but certainly more than 24 hours. With the iPod back to life it seems that I’ll pass on the iPhone in winter, going for a real phone when the contract is up…
