I am not sure if anybody has taken Steve Gillmor’s offer, so here it goes.
Listen to 40 seconds of Jason Calacanis. It is an excerpt from the Bloggercon Gang where Jason impromptu creates an add for digg.
Readers of this blog should not think that I relentlessly link to and quote Gillmor or Calacanis for groupie-esque reasons. Rather I think that they, one by not linking, the other by being an aggressive forward-thinking business man, both by putting their hearts where their mouths are, are actively shaping the business in this web age. I can understand why some people might consider them either clueless, arrogant, old , vain, overrated or all of the above. Fact of the matter is though, at this point in time you need people like them (and I am not saying they are the only ones, they are just very provoking at it) to power issues like transparency, what’s mine should stay mine and I should be able to do with it as I please, 2.0 business models, and content creation. Listen to Calacanis’ Digg commercial and tell me which CEO would have guts enough to promote a direct competitor?
I believe it just shows heart and soul, and we will see that on the web, in the construct that everybody calls 2.0 and in which most 2.0 companies have their own blog to have a face for their customers and to establish a personal relationship with their customers – I believe that in this construct those companies that have heart and soul and leaders with heart and soul will go a long way. Even better of course if they have employees with heart and soul as well..
