Today I went to earthlink.net and looked at their services. Of course I have few uses for their service since I live in Europe but in case I moved to the US tomorrow I need to be able to make an informed choice. 😉
I learned all about Earthlink through the commercial in Steve Gillmor’s podcasts on the Podshow Network, e.g. the Gillmor Gang. And the first ten listens I thought what a bad ad for a podcast, then I started getting interested in the different accents of the speakers (I studied North-American literature and language) and finally, at about the 50th time I heard the ad, I thought, oh, well, I’ll give them the respect they deserve and pay their site a visit. There you have it, advertising, even with lame spots, works. Often, the frequency is key.
Tongue-out of cheek though: It IS a great decision on their part to put themselves out here in the blogoshere, with all the coverage on betterbadnews and other pages ripping them apart. Apparently, they care. And I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
(If you are wondering about the headline of this post, listen to an episode of the Gillmor Gang, you’ll know what I mean.)
