Ich: Oder ne, ist das nicht Bärchenwurst nur mit Erwachsenenmuster?
Da müssen wir beide lachen.

Interesting to see, how Google is not a social network but has all it would need in place…

I am not sure what it is, a glitch, a security hole, privacy issue, common sense, but here is what happened:
Back when the Facebook iPhone app was update to contain push notification and sync I did just that: Sync my phone book contacts with the Facebook iPhone Apps contact list. Today I received a phone call from my uncle on my iPhone. Next to his name was a small picture. I didn’t know the picture but recognized him well enough. Also recognizable were the “widescreen” black strips on top and on the bottom which seems universal to all the synced pictures. There was my clue. The picture must have come from his Facebook page.

However, here is the kicker: I didn’t even know he was on Facebook. And he certainly wasn’t a Facebook friend.

So how did the picture get into my contacts when we weren’t even friends? I looked at some of the early coverage but nobody seems to have noticed this yet. What does it mean? That the Facebook app syncs via cell phone numbers against ALL Facebook members? Without checking the subset of actual Friends? Wouldn’t that be, well, a privacy issue?

Ich bin mir der Ironie bewusst, dass ich diese Blogs und Benimmregeln nicht lesen müsste. Aber es nervt einfach, wenn dann die üblichen Verdächtigen auf den Zug aufspringen und meinen, dass das ganz richtig so sei und man das ja selbst auch nie anders gemacht hätte. Wo bleiben denn die Hinweise darauf, dass es total uncool ist, wenn Leute 5x den Friend Request abschicken? Warum schreibt niemand, dass es nervt, wenn Enrico Schütze einem nicht nur mit 7 Twitter Accounts folgt, sondern dies auch jede Woche wieder neu bestätigt? Warum hängt ihr euch an diesem Popelkram wie “Bietet Mehrwert” auf? Wenn die Leute das nicht tun, werden sie schon sehen, was sie davon haben, sie Video. Etiquette beim Social Networken? Und wer es nicht mitbekommen hat, hier ist mein Posterous.

This year I did not post any goals or resolutions. They exist, rest assured, but they are few, some of them with consequences if reached, and not all yet for everybody to chew.

As I alter decisions, behavior, priorities now to reach goals by the end of the year, one thing becomes obvious which is not new, but hard to act on:
When you decide to focus on one thing and not do another it is important to weigh on the future of what’s left behind. Are you putting it away for good? Then get rid of it. Don’t leave it on your list and shift it from page to page (or let Teuxdeux do it for you). Often it’s much healthier and has more impact on your productivity if you get rid of it. It will free you mind and lift the burden off your shoulders. Easy example? I had about three months of “brand eins”, an exceptional German business magazine, only partially read or brand new on a pile. Every time I moved the chair with that pile it stared at me, haunting me to act on it. Same as the cell phone art project.

Not any more.

Room freed up to focus on the big picture.
